Bye Bye Winter

HELLOOOOOO SPRING!

It’s about that time everybody! With the plus temperatures that we’ve been getting lately it’s time to say goodbye to all of that heavy winter gear and start getting comfy in your spring clothes. But as you’re packing away your winter coat, hats and boots, remember to take a break and give your car the much needed attention it deserves.

If you’ve had as rough a winter as I had (108 centimeters of snow in 3 days?!) just imagine how rough a winter your car had! Salt, snow, slush, dirt, and constant freezing temperatures? Ouch. So to help your car feel both inside and out, follow these quick tips:

Remove those floor mats

Come April it’s likely that your mats have been filled with snow, slush, ice and salt. If you’ve used cloth mats, pull them out of your car and get ready to scrub, scrub, scrub! Boil some water and with a hard bristle brush scrub out some of those salts stains. It might be hard work, but you’ll appreciate it later!

Now look below the mats

What do you see? Salt stains? Thought so. Get yourself some hot water and a shop vac and prepare to soak out some of your salt stains. Remember, you can’t use a normal vacuum, and make sure the carpet is completely dry before covering it up with your mats again.

Have a look at your seats

Specifically the bottoms – any salt stains (check the back of the driver’s seat for kiddie footprints/salt)? Give your seats a quick once over to get the mess out.

Tidy the dash

For most people, this is fairly simple to do, but for others it’s a nightmare! Remove all the items you don’t need, and figure out storage for the ones you do. Give your dash a wipe with some cleaning cloths or a damp rag.

Replace the air freshener

When I first started driving I had a pair of fuzzy dice as my air freshener. A new season means a new scent, so get yourself something springy!

Now that you’ve got your interior cleaned, it’s time to check out your exterior and your engine. Get your car out of it’s winter rut with my quick exterior tips article:
